The dictionary defines labor as "physical or mental exertion, especially as it pertains to difficult or exhausting work". With that description, it's no wonder the process preceding childbirth is also called "labor". A mom has a lot of work to do! And this work will take a toll on her body.
Most moms will find childbirth to be an exhausting process. Labor will cause many stomachs, legs and midsections to become fatigued. Many moms will get the shakes after birth. Having spent awhile on the birthing table, a mom's rear is likely to become (quite) sore. A slight degree of pain or discomfort may be felt.
Soon after giving birth, mothers will likely be encouraged to breast feed the newborn. This first feeding will be punctuated with a tugging at the breast, a feeling mom's will assuredly enjoy.
Your body's hormones and fluids will change dramatically in the first hours and days after pregnancy. This will cause many moms to become tired, blue or slightly depressed while the body shifts back to business as usual.
Though a mom's body will have experienced much and fatigue will set in, these first moments of motherhood will be cherished for a lifetime.
