We've all been there before. You have a list of baby items to accumulate before your little one arrives. But there is one item that does not need to be on your list - baby shoes! Most baby experts agree it is best to keep a newborn out of shoes until they have been walking for two months. Walking barefoot will develop toe gripping and muscular strength. Baby feet exert a lot of energy when standing and balancing, causing their little feet to get hot and sweat up to twice that of adult feet. Baby shoes may cause baby feet to get warm and cause discomfort.
But if you must purchase shoes for your baby's feet, what shoes should you purchase? Most experts agree baby shoes have flat, flexible, and non-slip soles. The sole should be thin enough to allow the foot to flex naturally. The shoe's uppers should be made of a light weight and breathable material. There should be plenty of wiggle room for the toes. We suggest making sure there is extra room between the big toe and the end of the shoe. Shoes should firmly secure to the foot, and have no heel elevation.
